Montenegro Citizenship by Investment – an Attractive European Program

Montenegro will launch its own Citizenship by Investment Program in October 2018. The Montenegro Citizenship by Investment Program will be limited to only 2,000 applicants over a three-year period. The processing time takes around 6 months. The application phase is already beginning.

This investment will require the following:

-100 000 EUR donation in government funds PLUS

-250 000 EUR investment in approved property in the undeveloped area OR

-450 000 EUR investment in approved property in the developed area

After you have done this investment and submitted the application processing will take about 6 months as we already mentioned. After this time you and your family will receive Montenegrin citizenship.

At a starting investment of €350,000, Montenegro’s program will prove to be one of the most competitive in Europe.

What makes the program even more attractive is its application speed, which allows permanent residence status within 3 weeks- without undermining thorough due diligent processes. Citizenship is then granted within a period of 6 months as permanent residents.

The Montenegrin passport is currently ranked 37th in the world by The Passport Index, allowing citizens visa-free travel to 115 countries, and is expected to grow significantly following EU accession.

It is not required to permanently reside in the country, but you will have to spend at least five days in the country during the period of five calendar years.

To apply for the Citizenship Program Montenegro applicants must be at least 18 years of age, be of a good character with no criminal record, and have good health. An applicant may apply together with his or her spouse and dependent children, and, in some cases, dependent elderly parents or grandparents.

Having a Montenegrin passport will not interfere with your original citizenship, as dual citizenship is allowed

The process may be simplified into the following steps:

  • Application preparation and pre-approval by GCI – Global Citizenship Investment
  • Submission of the application to the Government of Montenegro
  • Government processing of the application and due diligence checks, taking between 4 and 6 months for completion.
  • Approval in principle.
  • Investment in a business, purchase of real estate, or donation to the Government Fund.
  • Citizenship certificate issued.
  • Passport application and issuance.
